Our Sustainability Commitments
A responsible approach to contract cleaning and catering
Orian Solutions is committed to building a more sustainable approach to contract cleaning and catering across the North of England. Our responsibilities extend beyond service delivery. We aim to reduce environmental impact, support local communities and contribute to healthier learning and working environments in Cumbria, Lancashire, North West England, Yorkshire and the North East.
Our commitments reflect practical steps that bring long term value to the offices, workplaces, care homes and schools we support in areas across the North including Carlisle, Kendal, Penrith, Lancaster, Preston, Blackburn, Darlington and Newcastle.
Three core pillars of sustainability
Our main sustainability priorities
We focus on practical, measurable areas where we can make the greatest impact every day.
Environment
Reducing waste, lowering energy use and sourcing responsibly.
People
Supporting staff, communities and the wellbeing of building users.
Quality
Maintaining high standards while adopting lower impact methods.
Meaningful Priorities
Our commitments in action
To make these priorities meaningful, we have established a clear set of commitments that guide our decisions and shape the way we work.
Four sustainability commitments
- Reducing environmental impact through low chemical and water efficient cleaning
- Building supply chains that support local producers and responsible sourcing
- Improving waste reduction across kitchens, cleaning teams and offices
- Encouraging healthier lifestyles through food education and balanced menus

Supplier Assessments
Responsible sourcing and supplier partnerships
We work with suppliers across Cumbria, Lancashire, Yorkshire and the North East who share our commitment to sustainable practice. Many are independent producers who supply fresh produce, bakery items, meat and dairy for our school and workplace kitchens.
Our supplier assessments include checks on packaging, waste management, delivery efficiency and environmental policies.

Reduce Environmental Impact
Sustainable cleaning practices
Our cleaning services use methods that reduce environmental impact while maintaining high hygiene standards. This includes chemical free cleaning where suitable, microfibre cloths that reduce product use and equipment that lowers energy consumption.
Our cleaning sustainability actions
- Reduced chemical usage
- Microfibre programmes to improve efficiency
- Energy efficient vacuums and robotics
- Water efficient cleaning systems
- Improved recycling of cleaning materials

Menu Planning
Responsible catering and food education
Our catering teams support sustainability through menu planning, local sourcing and waste reduction. We also work with schools to help pupils understand the value of seasonal produce, balanced eating and local food networks.
Food service sustainability includes
- Seasonal menu planning
- Local ingredient sourcing
- Reducing food waste through portion planning
- Considering packaging and transport impact
- Clear allergen and ingredient transparency

Future Initiatives
Working towards long-term goals
We continue to track progress and refine our commitments as better equipment, new methods and regional opportunities develop. Our future initiatives include more detailed waste tracking, increased use of digital systems and improved recycling routes for both cleaning and catering operations.
